UPDATED: St. George man dies from injuries in South Thomaston snowmobile crash
SOUTH THOMASTON — A St. George man has died from his injuries after a snowmobile crash Sunday afternoon, around 2:30 p.m., at 716 St. George Road in South Thomaston, according to Maine Warden Service spokesman John MacDonald.
Robert Milhomme, 61, of St. George, sustained serious injuries as a result of the Jan. 24 crash off Route 131.
South Thomaston Fire Chief Bryan Calderwood said that Milhomme was found laying on the road surface, with the snowmobile about 5-feet-away and he was not wearing a helmet. Calderwood added that Milhomme was operating alone on a plowed private way when the accident occurred.
Milhomme was transported by South Thomaston Ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center. Calderwood confirmed that LifeFlight had originally been contacted to transport Milhomme, but the helicopter was not available so he was taken to Rockport by ambulance.
Rockland EMS also responded to the crash.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Maine Warden Service.
