UPDATED: One person transported to hospital via LifeFlight following Rockport crash




ROCKPORT (Aug. 23) – Rockport Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to a two-vehicle crash on Route 17 Friday afternoon. As a result of the crash, a Rockland man was LifeFlighted to Central Maine Medical Center, in Lewiston, with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
According to Sgt. James Moore, on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, Timothy Cousens, 60, of Rockland, was operating a 2000 Gold Chevrolet pickup and travelling east on Rockland Street (Route 17) in Rockport when another vehicle entered Rockland Street from The Green Thumb.
Cousens allegedly swerved into the opposite lane to avoid the vehicle and crashed head-on into a Silver 2016 GMC pickup operated by Tyler Masonoff, 22, of Thomaston.
Cousens was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Moore.
State Police Cpl Jeremy Wesbrock was the first official to arrive on scene. With the assistance of civilian bystanders, Wesbrock re-routed Rockland Street traffic until Rockport Fire Department personnel arrived, sending vehicles across Old Rockland Street and Rockville Street.
Along with Rockport Fire Dept. and Northeast Ambulance, Rockland EMS was also summoned to the scene due to multiple victims needing medical assistance.
Masonoff and passenger Joanna Harriman, 37 of Thomaston, were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center by Rockland EMS, where they were treated and later released.
The crash is being investigated by Rockport PD Sgt James Moore and reconstructed by State Trooper James Anstett.

ROCKPORT — Crash reconstructionists from the Maine State Police are working to determine the circumstances that led to a two-vehicle crash in front of the Green Thumb, in Rockport, Friday, Aug. 20, 2021.
Just before 3:30 p.m., Knox Regional Communications Center began dispatching Rockport Fire, North East Ambulance, and Rockland EMS to Route 17 for a crash involving two pickup trucks, and the three occupants within. As firefighters worked to extricate one person, other fire and EMS personnel determined the need for a Life Flight medivac helicopter.
All three occupants were transported to hospitals for their injuries.
An officer with the Maine State Police was first to arrive on scene. For a time, traffic control was assisted by a deputy from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. A volunteer traffic controller rerouted traffic from the opposite side of the scene.
Route 17 reopened at 5:15 p.m.
