UPDATE: Rockport Main Street, Mistic neighborhood hit by overnight house and car break-ins
UPDATE — Camden-Rockport Police Chief Randy Gagne said July 8 that the investigation continues into the rash of vehicular and house break-ins along the Main Street and Mistic neighborhood of Rockport. Camden Police Detective Curt Andrick is assisting Rockport PD with the investigation, and Gagne said should anyone have more information about break-ins or suspicious activity, to call 207-236-9753.
Since July 6, when police confirmed they had fielded numerous calls about breaking and entering, even more calls were made by residents who had read about the incidents in the news, and made additional reports about open doors and cabs on vehicles in that neighborhood.
ROCKPORT (July 6) — The reports streamed in today to Rockport Police Department of cars and houses being broken into on Mistic Ave., Main Street, Camrock Drive, and Camden Street in Rockport. Cars were entered with doors left open, and a few houses were reportedly entered.
According to Rockport Police Officer Dana Smith, he responded to a series of calls all day July 6 reporting breaking and entering. A home on Main Street was apparently entered through the basement and owners returned to find all the cats outside.
Another homeowner on Seaport Drive reported at 3:30 in the morning that an intruder was walking around with a flashlight outside the home. She reported the person then pulled her mailbox out of the ground.
According to Facebook posts, a Camden Street business’ alarm system went off at 12:45 a.m.
The Mistic and Camrock neighborhood was hit around 3 a.m.
A homeowner on Mistic Avenue reported that her car had been entered, her purse rifled through, but neither her cellphone nor money was stolen.
Just down the street, a homeowner on Main Street, however, reported $100 stolen from a wallet inside a car.
As homeowners in Rockport neighborhood learned of the July 5-6 break-ins on Facebook this evening, the calls continued to Knox County Regional Communications Center, including one from this reporter, whose unlocked vehicles were also apparently riffled through during the night.
Last week, a homeowner further west on Main Street reported his truck had been ransacked.
Police Chief Randy Gagne advises residents to call 911 about any suspicious activity. Lock cars and take valuables inside, he said. Smith is in charge of the investigation.
