Palermo man arrested for domestic assault, terrorizing
PALERMO — A Palermo man was arrested June 3 following a reported assault on Jones Road.
According to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Chris Gidney, 43, allegedly assaulted and threatened his domestic partner, prompting deputies Greg Jones, Jonathan Shaw and Chris Dyer to respond to the scene.
Once on scene, deputies determined an assault had occurred and the victim was treated by Delta Ambulance for minor injuries.
When deputies advised Gidney he was being placed under arrest, he “quickly moved into a vehicle parked in the driveway,” according to the Sheriff’s Office in a news release.
While attempting to restrain Gidney, he reportedly kicked one of the deputies before pulling a handgun from under the seat of the vehicle and pointing it toward the officers.
Deputies Shaw, Jones and Dyer took cover before requesting additional units for backup, and at the same time, Gidney fled into a wooded area near the home.
Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton, Detective Dale Brown and several members of the Maine State Police responded to the request for backup, and once on scene, were able to quickly locate Gidney, who was arrested without any further incident.
Gidney was charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.
