Mary E. White, obituary
ROCKLAND — Mary E. White, 69, died March 22, 2016, surrounded by her family and beloved cat, Spanky, at the Sussman House in Rockport, after an extended illness.
Born in Quincy, Mass., on Nov. 22, 1946, she was the daughter of Robert P. Sr. and Edythe Kimball White. She was educated in Boston parochial schools.
In the early 1970s, Mary moved to Maine with her family.
For many years, she was a devoted companion to Bernard Andrews, who died in 1990.
Mary enjoyed her work as a clerk at BookLand and Mr. Paperback, both in Rockland.
For the past several years she resided at Stella Maris House.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, where she taught Sunday School.
Family and her church were foremost in Mary's life, she was an avid reader and an ardent Red Sox fan as well.
In addition to her companion, Bernard; Mary was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Robert P. White Jr.; and her sister, Judith A. White. She is survived by two sisters, Sharon E. McKnight and her husband, Joshua, of South Thomaston, and Susan Willey of Marco Island, Fla.; nine nieces and nephews, including Laura, Jennifer, Amy, Billy, Zachary, Starcia, Rheannon, Christian and Holly; as well as many great- and great great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held Friday, April 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway in Rockland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bob Gagnon Cancer Care Fund, c/o Pen Bay Health Care Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
