Man accused of assaulting Rockland restaurant employee, corrections officer
ROCKLAND — A Portland man who was previously charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon in March in Cumberland County has now been accused of assaulting a Rockland restaurant employee and a corrections officer.
Seth Sargent, 36, made his initial court appearance May 31 in Knox County Unified Court. In addition to the two counts of assault from incidents on May 27 and 28, Sargent was also charged with violating a condition of release.
At the hearing, Judge Susan Sparaco set Sargent’s bail at $5,000. He remains at the Knox County Jail.
According to the affidavit filed in court by Rockland Police, they arrested Sargent at Claws Restaurant May 27 for allegedly assaulting an employee while he was working. Two men held Sargent on the ground until police arrived. Police listed his recent address as North Haven in the affidavit.
The second assault occurred May 28 when Sargent allegedly attacked a corrections officer at the Knox County Jail when he was taking the inmate his dinner tray. Sargent grabbed the officer’s shirt collar and then punched him in the right side of his head, according to the affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
After the alleged assault at the restaurant, police found an axe on the front seat in Sargent’s pickup truck, which a violation of his condition of release from his previous arrest in Cumberland County in March.
