Lincolnville man charged with domestic abuse, assault after victim asks witness for help
UNION — Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Lincolnville man late Tuesday afternoon, following a report that a female who was traveling with him had been assaulted and needed help.
According to Chief Deputy Tim Carroll, the incident began just before 4 p.m., when deputies received a call about a possible “rolling domestic situation. Carroll said that a witness at Maritime Farms in Union reported that the female asked her to call for help for her while they were at the business.
Carroll said the witness stated that the female was very upset and that her face was bruised.
Prior to deputies’ arrival, the victim and the suspect, later identified as Tyler Vangel, 22, of Lincolnville, drove off after Vangel got back to the vehicle.
Another witness followed the car, according to Carrol, and reported its location, near Union Common, to authorities.
After Deputy Sgt. John Palmer arrived on scene and made contact with the couple, Carroll said it was quickly determined that Vangel should be arrested, based on information provided.
Union Ambulance was called to check on the injured female, who sustained a possible fractured nose, in addition to other injuries.
Vangel was charged with three counts of domestic abuse, assault, criminal threatening and reckless conduct, all Class D offenses. He was also charged with violation of conditions of release, Class E, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Vangel remains in jail Wednesday, according to Carroll.
