LifeFlight helicopter transports driver to hospital following South Thomaston crash
A St. George man was transported via helicopter to a larger hospital following a crash on Route 131 in South Thomaston, March 31.
Richard Rydell, 62, was traveling south on Route 131 (St. George Road) in a 2009 Toyota Scion when he reported to Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies that he fell unconscious, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., he crossed the northbound lane, went off the road, struck an embankment to a driveway and crashed into a parked car.
“Rydell stated he had been painting inside earlier and may have been a determining factor,” the sheriff’s office said. “South Thomaston EMS decided that Rydell needed to be LifeFlighted to another hospital due to head, neck and leg injuries. Rydell was not wearing a seatbelt.”
The South Thomaston emergency medical crew met the LifeFight helicopter at the Knox County Regional Airport. South Thomaston Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
