Hope Cunningham, obituary
Hope A. Cunningham, born in 1931, passed away on March 17, 2016, due to severe injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
She was the loving daughter of George and Edna Currier, and wife of Phillip Cunningham (2013). She was the mother of Catherine Reno (Leonard), Gregory, Robert (Louise) and Julie Cyr (Joseph); and mother-in-law of Pamela Cunningham. She was predeceased by her sons, Stephen, Anthony, Peter and George; and her sister, Faye. She was also the sister of George and Jim Currier.
Hope graduated from Bangor High School in 1950 and married Phil in 1951. Phil and Hope enjoyed 63 years of marriage together, 21 years of which were spent traveling the U.S. in the Air Force. Later, after Phil retired from Eastern Maine Medical Center, they traveled the U.S. in their motor home.
Hope enjoyed a wonderful life. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, where she held several positions in her younger years. Hope was a Cub Scout den mother, longtime Girl Scout leader and active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belfast. Her hobbies included bingo, knitting, crocheting, baking and ceramics.
In addition to her four remaining children, she leaves her grandchildren, Joshua, Robert, Jessica, Corey, Kasey, Luke, Catherine, Jacob and Henry; as well as two great-granddaughters, Harper and Savannah.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering on Friday, April 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast. A memorial mass will be held Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 81 Court St. in Belfast. Interment will be held privately at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
