BELFAST — An East Newport man was sentenced to four years in prison with all but 120 days suspended May 24, for his role in the robbery of a Burnham store Jan. 8.

David W. Pedone, 22, was among a group of five to face charges relating to the early morning break-in.

According to court documents, the crime was captured on video surveillance before being interrupted by the owner, whose home is adjacent to the store.

Responding Waldo County Sheriff’s deputies were able to track fresh snowprints to a nearby apartment complex, where they interviewed a resident who ultimately led them to Pedone.

According to an affidavit, Pedone implicated fellow co-conspirators (John M. Ryan, 19, of Fairfield; Michael McGregor, 22, of Canaan; Matthew A. Shaw, 20, of Hartland, and Sarah B.J. Chase, of Burnham), during an interview with law enforcement.

Pedone reportedly told deputies that the group had stolen beer and cartons of cigarettes the first time the store was burglarized, before the group returned a second time in search of money. It was during the second trip to burglarize the store that the group was interrupted by the store owner.

In addition to serving 120 days of his four year sentence, Pedone will serve two years of probation and must repay $1,028.77 restitution for burglary. Pedone was also sentenced to 120 days in jail for both his charges of burglary, and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

Pedone is expected to begin his sentence June 18.
