Bucksport school teacher found dead in Penobscot River
PROSPECT — A Bucksport teacher’s body was found Sunday in the Penobscot River and Maine State Police are calling it a suicide.
Traci Merriam’s car was found parked along the Penobscot Narrows Bridge around 4 a.m. and a suicide note was found inside, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
State Police troopers recovered Merriam, 46, deceased in the water in Prospect around 7 a.m. Sunday. She was a fifth-grade teacher at Bucksport Middle School, according to police.
“It appears she jumped from the Penobscot Narrows Bridge sometime during the night,” said McCausland Monday morning.
He said an autopsy is scheduled at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta.
