Belfast police bust meth lab
BELFAST — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has charged two Belfast men for allegedly making methamphetamine after the discovery of a meth lab inside one of their homes.
Belfast Police Department assisted the DEA with the investigation. Arrests took place Monday night, March 21, at 354 High Street, in Belfast.
Drug agents arrested Edward Mylen, 37, of Belfast for aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, Class A and unlawful operation of a methamphetamine laboratory, Class A.
They also arrested Michael Redding, 27, of Belfast for trafficking in methamphetamine, Class B, and unlawful operation of a methamphetamine laboratory, Class B.
Monday evening, drug agents from the MDEA Mid-Coast District Task Force arrested the two men at 354 High Street in Belfast. Mylen and Redding had been under investigation since December for manufacturing methamphetamine at Redding's High Street residence. While agents were interviewing the two, a meth lab was discovered in the home.
Agents secured the residence while a search warrant was drafted. They seized approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine that the men had allegedly made, according to a report from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Due to the dangerous nature of methamphetamine manufacturing, members of the MDEA Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team were used in seizing evidence and rendering it safe for disposal. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection assisted at the scene taking the waste products for safe disposal.
Mylen and Redding were transported to the Waldo County Re-Entry Center and then transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail. Bail was set at $5,000 cash each. Mylen's prior drug conviction aggravated his charge.
This was the 17th meth lab incident responded to by MDEA this year, according the state.
