Angus King: Statement on terrorist attacks in Brussels
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The office of U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Senate Intelligence and Armed Services Committees, released the following statement today on the terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium.
"Senator King's thoughts and prayers are with the people of Belgium in the wake of this terrible tragedy," said Scott Ogden, spokesman for Senator King in a news release. "While authorities are still working to uncover more information, Senator King has been briefed on the attacks today by counterterrorism officials as part of the ongoing Congressional delegation trip, which began in Eastern Europe and is focused on national security. He will continue to receive updates throughout the day as more information becomes available. Acts of terrorism like these are a direct affront to the freedom and liberty of people around the world, and the United States stands shoulder to shoulder with Belgium as it seeks to bring to justice those who are responsible for this atrocity."
Senator King is currently participating in a Senate Intelligence Committee delegation trip focused on national security. On March 18 and 19, Senator King met with security officials in Poland, and on March 20, he met with security officials in Ukraine. The trip remains ongoing and more information will be released when possible.
