Wiscasset, other towns get ‘KKK’ fliers

At least three Lincoln County law enforcement agencies, Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset and the Sheriff’s Office, have been receiving reports of pamphlets left on lawns and driveways identified as recruitment material from the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). The Boothbay Harbor and Wiscasset police departments and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office along with the Damariscotta and Waldoboro police departments are collaboratively investigating these incidents at this time.

While unsettling to many, this appears to be nothing more than an expression of free speech and does not seem directed at any one individual nor related to any other incident locally or nationally.  However, the manner in which the flyers were distributed on both public and private property is a violation of Maine’s litter laws and an indication the distributors may lack organization.

If you find any pamphlets you suspect could be from the KKK or similar groups or individuals, or if you have any information regarding the distribution of these flyers, please contact your local law enforcement agency right away at 207-882-7332.
