ROCKPORT The Camden Hills hockey team continued its winning ways with a 3-0 win over visiting Cape Elizabeth Saturday, Jan. 30 at Midcoast Recreation Center.

Both teams started slow with no scoring in the first period. The Windjammers came alive in the second period scoring twice and once more in the final period.

Camden scored the first goal at 14:21 of the second period from Perrin Ganter with an assist from James Orne. Orne skated hard into the offensive zone on his left wing side and feathered a pass through a Cape Elizabeth defender to Ganter skating through the mid lane, Ganter took a wrist shot that beat Caper goalie Grant Rusk in the five hole.

The second goal of the period came from Orne at 9:10 with an assist from Jonah Cameron. Cameron quickly passed to Orne skating hard to the low slot at the very same time several Cape Elizabeth players try to defend the play, Orne just manages to get his stick on the puck as he collides with the Cape Elizabeth defenders and the puck sails over Caper Goalie Grant Rusk shoulder into the net.

In the third period Cameron scored at 0:36 on a short-handed goal.

"Tonight was all about effort," said Camden Hills coach Karl Enroth. "What we lacked in execution at times during the game we made up for with just playing extremely hard."

Zack Hand was in goal for the Windjammers where he had 22 saves on 22 shots to record the shutout. Grant Rusk was in goal for Cape Elizabeth where he had 26 saves on 29 shots from Camden.

"The forward line of Perrin Ganter, James Orne, and Jonah Cameron led the charge offensively while goalie Zach Hand along with our defensemen neutralized any Caper threats to score during the game." said Enroth.

Camden had five minor penalties for 10 minutes in the penalty box while Cape had three minors for six minutes in the box. Camden Hills was 0-1 on power play opportunities and Cape was 0-3.

"This is a big rivalry game as we have had many intense exiting hockey games with Cape Elizabeth throughout the years," said Enroth. "And it was nice for our Windjammer players to get the home win at MRC with so many fans coming out to support the hockey team"

Camden Hills goes to 10-2 on the season. According to the latest Maine Principals' Association Heal point standings, Camden is in fourth place with Waterville in first at 12-1-1. The top seven teams make the postseason.

Next up for the Windjammers will be Wednesday, Feb. 3 when they host Old Town/Orono at 6 p.m. at MRC.
