Will Malsbury is new school based manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters Midcoast Maine

CAMDEN — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine (BBBSMM), which serves youth facing adversity in Knox, Lincoln, Kennebec, Penobscot, Somerset and Waldo Counties, has hired Will Malsbury of Gardiner as its new School-Based Manager to serve Kennebec Valley. In this position, he will be responsible for recruiting, interviewing, screening and training prospective new high school students to serve as mentors (Big Brothers and Big Sisters) for elementary and middle school students. He will coordinate School-Based Mentoring in Kennebec and Somerset Counties and provide match support as Bigs and Littles develop their relationships. He will work out of BBBSMM’s Augusta office.

Prior to coming to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Malsbury worked as an AmeriCorps member for City Year Boston, serving in a 4th grade classroom as a tutor, role model and mentor for students in all subject areas, behavior management and attendance coaching. He also coordinated an extended day learning program for 30 students by writing curriculum and facilitating activities. Before that, he served as a Youth Outreach Specialist/Therapeutic Mentor for Riverside Community Care in Needham, MA, where he mentored young adolescent men with mental disabilities.

He received a Masters of Arts in Teaching ,Elementary Education, from Northeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Non-Profit Organization Management from Gordon College. While attending Gordon College, Malsbury was selected to be the Service Learning Trip Leader, for a service trip to the CICRIN Orphanage in Ometepe, Nicaragua. In that role he interviewed and selected a team of 11 peers who completed physical service projects on orphanage grounds.
