ROCKLAND — The Rockland Fire Department responded to a welding equipment fire at Steel-Pro Inc. at 660 Main Street around 11:50 a.m. Thursday, June 16.

According to Rockland Fire Chief Chris Whytock, the fire originated with a welding bottle being used inside the facility. The bottle’s valve protection cap was not fully turned in enough which caused a leak and sparked the fire.

Whycock said that the fire did not spread inside the building. The welding bottle, which contained explosive gas, was on wheels and very portable so it was quickly transported outside and the small fire was extinguished by firefighters in about two minutes.

No injuries were sustained by any employees.

Rockland EMS also responded to the scene.
