Wanted Greenbush man arrested, charged with bath salts possession
SOUTH THOMASTON — Maine Drug Enforcement agents, State Police troopers and Knox County Sheriff's deputies arrested a wanted Greenbush man Wednesday in South Thomaston after they discovered him allegedly hiding inside the house of a probationer.
Penobscot County had outstanding warrants for Leonard D. Wells Jr., 53, on charges of burglary and violation of conditions of release stemming from another set of drug charges, according to an MDEA press release Wednesday afternoon.
Officers encountered Wells inside the South Thomaston home during a routine probation check of the resident. According to police, Wells originally gave agents a false name, alleging Wells was "aware of the warrants for his arrest."
After determining his identity, agents seized about 20 grams of what is believed to be bath salts from him.
Wells was taken to Knox County jail on the warrants, and he was issued a summons for possession of synthetic hallucinogenic drugs.
On the streets, the drug known as bath salts sells for approximately $150 per gram in Maine, according to the MDEA.
