Waldoboro Police beat: Negative contact with clowns, accidents

    WALDOBORO — Waldoboro police responded to 139 calls for service from Oct. 3-11. Listed below are a few of the highlights. An arrest or summons does not apply guilt. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. 

    Oct. 3 

    Officer Thomas Bartunek investigated an accident on Depot Street at 5:52 p.m. Melani Darrell, 63, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2008 Toyota sedan. Dori Cross, 41, of N.H., was driving a 2016 Toyota utility vehicle. Darrell was stopped at the intersection of Depot Street and Atlantic Highway. Cross pulled out of the Irving parking lot and headed northbound on Atlantic Highway. Darrell started into the intersection and failed to see Cross, striking his vehicle in the rear driver’s side door. Injuries were reported for Cross. 

    Oct. 6                       

    Officer Chris Spear investigated a report from multiple students at Medomak Valley High School of clowns seen on Manktown Road. Spear had negative contact with clowns. 

    Oct. 7                       

    Officer Jeffery Fuller investigated a report from a citizen that she is being harassed via text message. Subject was located and warned on harassment.                       

    Sgt. Jamie Wilson investigated an accident on Atlantic Highway at 5:45 p.m. Susan Golden, 59, of Modesto, Calif. was driving a 2016 Nissan sedan. Gregory Ovel, 75, of The Villages, Fla.  was driving a 2015 Volkswagen sedan. Golden was traveling southbound on Atlantic Highway, going up Ralph’s Hill. Ovel was in front of Golden, who was also travelling southbound on Atlantic Highway. Ovel slowed down and put four-way flashers on due to the sun’s glare and poor visibility going up the hill. Golden came up behind Ovel and was unable to see his vehicle due to the sun’s glare. Golden then struck Ovel’s vehicle. Injuries were reported.

    Oct. 9           

    Fuller is investigating a report from a citizen who reported someone may have entered a small outbuilding, as the padlock was on the ground. 

    Oct. 11 

    Officer Larry Hesseltine is investigating a report from One of Those Days Antiques of the theft of their phone.
