Vinalhaven wins regional crown, rides 33-game win streak into state championship

AUGUSTA — The Vinalhaven girls basketball team hit the hardwood at the Augusta Civic Center Saturday, Feb. 24, and were able to secure a second consecutive Class D South regional crown.
The top-seeded Vikings, who have won 33 consecutive contests dating back to last season, knocked off second-seeded Rangeley 59-49 in a Saturday afternoon affair.
Now, the Vikings will challenge the Class D North champion, top-seeded Southern Aroostook, for the state championship on Saturday, March 3, at 1:05 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.
