FRIENDSHIP — Venson Edgar “Vinny” Simmons, born Oct. 13, 1957, to George and Cynthia Simmons, passed away on June 10, 2016, at the Sussman House in Rockport, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Vinny grew up in Cushing and was educated locally. He was state champion in gymnastics during his freshman year, and he graduated from Georges Valley High School. After school Vinny went on scalloping out of New Bedford, and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was the sternman for many local fishermen, a clam digger, carpenter and whatever else he could find. He had an adventurous life. He enjoyed all his good times with his many many buddies. He loved to go hunting and fishing. Music was another love of his. You could always find Vinny doing a little yodel and playing the guitar. He loved to have visits with family, and he loved his family very much. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias.

Vinny was preceded in death by his children, Arnold in March of 2005, and Heather in May 2005; his infant granddaughter, Shanda M. Page; his grandparents, George Sr. and Margurite Simmons and Raymond and Sylvia Ames; as well as his nephew, Anthony Simmons.

He is survived by his parents, George and Cynthia Simmons of Cushing; his son, Shawn Simmons of Rockland; his granddaughters, Teagan and Hannah Simmons and Julia Page; his grandsons, Jesse Page and Cayden Simmons; his brother, Doyle Simmons and his wife, Lisa, of Rockland; his sister, Valerie Blazek and her husband, Michael, of Cushing; his special friend, Aimee Faulkingham and her son, Gage; his beloved dog, Savage; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, as well as too many friends to name.

The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the Sussman House staff for their amazing compassion and kindness during this rough time.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at Harbor View Cemetery in Friendship. The Rev. Bob Dorr will be officiating. There will be a reception to follow.

Hall's of Waldoboro has care of the arrangements.
