    THOMASTON (Feb. 2, 1:45 p.m.) — State Police and the state Medical Examiner's Office said Thursday that the skeletal remains found in Thomaston Jan 25 are those of 41-year-old Joshua Robichaud, a transient, who was last seen leaving the Knox County Jail in May.

    The positive identification came from work conducted by the State Police DNA lab.

    Robichaud's death is not considered suspicious, but the Medical Examiner has additional testing to be completed before finalizing a cause of death.

    The remains were found in a wooded area behind Dunkin Donuts, off Route 1 in Thomaston, near the Rockland line.

    Robichaud had been arrested in May of 2016 in Lewiston on outstanding warrants from Knox County. He was transported to the Knox Jail and released from there after serving a short time.

    His relatives in North Carolina and Maine were notified of the identification.


    THOMASTON (Jan. 27, 1:15 p.m.) — The state Medical Examiner's Office and the Maine State Police DNA lab continue to work to on the identify of the body that was found Jan. 25, in the woods behind Dunkin Donuts on Route 1 in Thomaston, near the Rockland line.

    Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland Friday afternoon said that both state agencies are involved with the identification process, which is expected to continue into next week.

    Evidence technicians returned to the scene Jan. 26 to re-search the area where the body was found. He said that no additional evidence was found in the search. The body was discovered by a construction worker.

    McCausland said that there is nothing to indicate anything suspicious with the death. Earlier in the week, he indicated that detectives had a promising lead on the identity of the man, whose body was believed to have been there a number of months. He also indicated they did not believe he was from Knox County.

    “Once there is a positive ID, detectives will attempt to retrace the man's footsteps and determine why he was in Knox County,” said McCausland in the news release Friday.


    THOMASTON (Jan. 25, 4:20 p.m.) — Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland late Wednesday afternoon said that detectives have a “promising lead” on the identity of the body that was found in the woods behind Dunkin Donuts on Route 1 in Thomaston around noon Jan. 25

    State and Thomaston Police, working with the state Medical Examiner's Office, recovered the remains of the badly decomposed body earlier in the afternoon.

    Armed with the lead, detectives are now awaiting work by the medical examiner to establish a positive ID, as well as a cause of death.

    McCausland said It is likely the man's body has been there for a number of months, and he is not believed to be from Knox County.

    State Police have not put the death in any category, other than it remains under investigation .


    THOMASTON (Jan. 25, 1 p.m.) — Maine State Police are assisting the Thomaston Police Department Wednesday, after the discovery of a body off Route 1.

    The badly decomposed body, believed to be a man, was found in a wooded area behind Dunkin Donuts this morning, by a workman who was in the area.

    In a press release, Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said that a team of detectives will assist the police department with the removal of the remains, which will be taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for examination and identification.

    The body was located a short distance in the woods from the parking lot, near the Rockland city line.

    Police are now reviewing missing persons reports to assist them in the identification process.
