WARREN —Just after 4 p.m., April 2, a Tenants Harbor woman perished in an automobile crash on Route 1 in Warren near Sandy Shores Road.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Constance Chandler-Ward, 82, of Tenants Harbor was operating a 2010 Honda Fit northbound and suddenly crossed the center line, running head-on into the rear trailer wheels of a 2017 Freightliner truck, operated by Jesse Moore, 45, of Falmouth. The truck was traveling south.

Chandler-Ward’s vehicle then spun around and rolled over, coming to rest on the side of the northbound lane.  Chandler-Ward was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.  Moore was uninjured in the crash.

Just prior to the crash, Knox County Regional Communications Center received a complaint that the vehicle fitting the description of Chandler-Ward’s car was operating in an erratic manner, “all over the road,” police said.

“It is believed that Chandler-Ward could have been suffering from a medical condition at the time of the crash,” the sheriff’s office said, in its news release.

Due to the commercial vehicle involvement, Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement was called to the scene.  Knox County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Warren Fire and Rescue and from the Knox County Regional Communications Center.
