Toboggan Nationals committee to assess weather, make decisions Friday morning
CAMDEN — With a blizzard warning in effect for the Maine coast, the U.S. National Toboggan Championships Committee has been meeting with Camden town officials and public safety officials throughout the day today.
They will meet again early Friday morning for a final assessment on where this storm is headed and what it will mean for the event this weekend, according to a press release issued by the committee late Thursday afternoon.
A public announcement is planned on site in Camden at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, with a statement issued shortly thereafter outlining the plan in terms of the race format and start times, as well as the status of related events Friday and Saturday.
"It is the committee's desire to continue the tradition of the U.S. National Toboggan Championships in some form, and not have it be the first year that the toboggans didn't run; though we understand that folks need to be able to travel safely," said USNTC Chairman Holly S. Edwards in the release.
