Technical Center students complete Steel-Pro welding challenge; company offers facility tours in Rockland
Steel-Pro welcomed 17 students from Waldo County Technical Center (WCTC) in Belfast on Monday, December 8, for a facility tour and welding competition.
Students began their visit with a guided tour of the Rockland manufacturing shop, gaining firsthand insight into Steel-Pro’s production process—from the arrival of raw materials to the completion of precision stainless-steel equipment.
"The group asked thoughtful questions throughout, including how the company measures and verifies surface finishes to meet strict industry specifications," said Steel-Pro, in a news release.
Following the tour, students participated in a hands-on welding challenge using dual-shield wire to produce fillet welds on stainless steel plate.

"Steel-Pro continues to be impressed by the enthusiasm and skill shown by WCTC students each year," said Steel-Pro. "The company looks forward to returning in April to lead the school’s stainless-steel welding module, providing materials and instruction for a week-long educational program."
This partnership is part of Steel-Pro’s broader commitment to developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople. The company regularly supports local schools by offering training, donating materials, and hosting hands-on learning opportunities such as its Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) course, taught by Steel-Pro’s expert welders. These initiatives help students explore welding as a career, build practical skills, and learn about opportunities available in Maine’s manufacturing sector.
"Steel-Pro remains dedicated to strengthening community connections and fostering future talent within the welding industry," said the company.
Beginning Thursday, December 11, Steel-Pro is offering weekly Career Exploration Tours of its facility at 771 Main Street in Rockland for those interested in exploring a career in welding. No prior experience is required—only curiosity and a strong work ethic. Tours will be held at 12 p.m., every Thursday through January 29 (excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day).
"The company is ready to train motivated candidates eager to start a rewarding career in the trades," said Steel-Pro.
