Snowdrop Confections: ‘A day without chocolate is like a day with out the sun’

ROCKLAND - Kimberly Snow owns and operates Snowdrop Confections at 377 Main St. in Rockland. The window decorations alone are enough to draw you into the store, but once inside you not only feel you are in a unique place to shop, but also the Christmas spirit overwhelms you with delight. And yes, you feel like a kid in a candy store all over again.

"It took us about 25 hours to do our Christmas decorating," said Snow. "Everyone contributed to our effort here to decorate. I love to decorate. I've done it for years and years at my home. I go all out at my home also. I get inspiration everywhere I look."

Once you're past the decorations you start to realize that every corner of the store is filled with chocolate and candies. Some nostalgic, some that seem to be calling your name.

"We have a lot of international goods," said Snow. "We have fudge, fine chocolates and novelty goods as well."

Snow said she makes about a third of the fine chocolates herself.

"My grandmother had a candy store where I grew up in New Jersey," she said. "She had her store and I have all her recipes. I make all our fudge too."

Snowdrop Confections is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. But Snow said they'll stay open as long as people are coming in and some days that's as late as 8 p.m.

"We've had a really good season this year," she said. "We live for the holidays. People do love candy and everybody has a sweet tooth. A day without chocolate is like a day with out the sun."
