NORTHPORT — Sheldrick R. Harvey, 95, passed away on Aug. 27, 2016, at his family home, after a brief illness.

He was born in Belfast, as an identical twin, on May 15, 1921, the son of Josiah and F. Sarah (Lear) Harvey.

A gentle, humble man of the greatest generation, who loved dancing, working the land and being with family. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater with the 234th Engineer Combat Battalion, Company B. He was one of the soldiers in the second wave on Omaha Beach on D-Day.

After the war, he married Madeline R. York and had six children: Randall, Rebecca, Shelly, Sherry, Sandra and Letti-Ann. He continued his service with the Army National Guard, retiring after a 21-year career as a staff sergeant of the United States Army. In 1950, he graduated from the National Radio Institute. He retired from Truitt Brothers after a 25-year career as a machinist.

He was predeceased by his second wife, Donna L. (Hall) Harvey; his parents; and brothers William and Sherley Harvey. Along with his six children, he is survived by 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many in-laws and extended family.

October military services and interment will be held in Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
