APPLETON — The girls teams of Appleton and Searsport battled it out on Monday, Dec. 15 in Busline League action at Appleton Village School. Many of the girls’ parents and siblings came out to watch the game, as well as a good amount of boys players from the Searsport A and Appleton teams from the earlier game.

As the first quarter began, Appleton started out very rough, having trouble getting shots off on Searsport. They totaled three points as the first quarter drew to a close.

Searsport, however, powered right through Appleton's defense, with a solid score of 17 to wrap the the quarter.

The second quarter changed it up a bit, with Searsport falling back into a less aggressive state and Appleton accelerating its game. Appleton finished the second quarter scoring 10 points, and Searsport racked up eight.

At the halftime break, Searsport lead 25-13.

The third quarter started off similarly to the first with Searsport coming out with an aggressive offense again, and Appleton's offense falling back. Although Appleton players played a rough blocking game, Searsport scored nine points by the end of the third quarter and Appleton only scored two.

After three, Searsport was up 34-15.

To finish in the fourth quarter, the girls played a very evenly matched game, going back and fourth shooting and blocking. Appleton finished the fourth quarter by putting up 10 points and Searsport put up 11.

In the end, Searsport racked up 45 points, compared to Appleton’s 25 to get the win.

The girls played an extremely rough game, with 32 total fouls called overall. There were 21 fouls called on Appleton and 11 called on Searsport.

Appleton coach, Mark Lafleche, said, "I think we played well, I was impressed with the defense the girls played. We were playing probably the best team in the league. We definitely still need to work on our offense but other than that, all in all, I have nothing negative to say about the girls performance tonight. The top player tonight was Allison Glaiser, who had a hot hand on offense. However, overall the whole team really stepped it up on defense, so I don't think I can single out any more single people; all of them collectively as a team played really well. Next time, I'm hoping that the kids can play just as hard or harder than they did tonight!"

Scorers for the Appleton team were Maggie Maxwell with two points, Alyson Glasier with 14 points, Jillian Thivierge with five points, Abby Harrington and McKenna Maxwell with two points each.

Scorers for the Searsport team were Makenzie Alley with six points, Karyn Myler with five points, Mikaela Alley with 14 points, Angela Kugers with four points, Casey Snow with three points, Felicia Starhope and Abby Sterup with two points each, Brooklyn Knowles with one point, and Morgan Ireland with eight points.
