TENANTS HARBOR — Paintings by Sandra M. Dickson will be on display as “GENESIS: The Birth of a Painting” at Jackson Memorial Library, April 2-30, 2024.

Refreshments will be served at the artist’s reception on Friday, April 5, from 5 - 7 p.m. The exhibit continues through the month of April, with a talk by the artist on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

“This exhibit is different from most art shows in that it has many unfinished studies as well as finished work,” said Dickson, in a news release. “I’ve wanted to do a presentation like this for a long time to show how a painting begins, not as finished artwork framed and hanging on the wall but as an idea that sparks one’s imagination and creates the urge to express visually what one has seen or experienced. I’ve painted professionally since my early 20’s and am still a student, learning every time I approach a challenging idea. In this show are some of my beginning.”

After a lifetime of summers and twelve winters on Monhegan Island, Dickson moved to Port Clyde in 1982. She works mainly in graphite, oils, and watercolor and exhibits her work at Lupine Gallery on Monhegan in summer and at her Glenmere Gallery in Port Clyde.

Dickson is also the author/illustrator of two children’s books, a booklet on solar power, and a biography of her artist grandmother.
