BROOKS — Ronald Cunningham died unexpectedly Dec. 25, 2014, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass. He was born May 31, 1950, in Bangor, son of Merlin and Nellie Cunningham of Winterport.

He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, had been employed as a Union Laborer for many years and was recently retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He spent many of his days camping and fishing. Ronald enjoyed spending time with his nephews, who he considered his grandchildren, including Zack, Jeremy, James and Alex Bennett, along with nephews Chris, Tim, Damien, Corey and Michael, his hunting and fishing buddies.

He spent a lot of time outside in the summers with his dog and sidekick, Axel Rose, and helping his brothers with their many "projects." He was an outdoors person and loved showing the kids how to enjoy his love of the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helena Cunningham; and his son, Jamie Cuningham, both of Brooks; his mother-in-law, Helen Cook of Brooks; his brothers, Jeff Cunningham of Winterport, Merlin and Donna Cunningham Jr. of Winterport, and Andy and Karen Cunningham of Winterport; his sisters, Vicki and Roland Brown of Frankfort, and Dianna and Jerry Moore of Frankfort; his sisters-in-law, Sirena and Jim Bennett Jr. of Brooks, and Rowena and Edward Nealley of Winterport; many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was predeceased by his son, Jason Cunningham; two brothers, Steve and Merle "Skip" Cunningham; his sister, Marsha Engstrom; and his parents, Merlin "Turk" and Nellie Cunningham.

Services with military honors will be held Friday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast.
