On Feb. 21, at 5:15 p.m., Rockland’s planning board will begin reviewing engineer drawings of the new 90,000-square-foot Mid-Coast School of Technology building, proposed for construction on the existing school’s 6.7-acre site at 1 Main Street in Rockland.

The meeting will take place in Rockland City Hall Council Chambers.

The site plan has been produced by Rockport engineers Gartley and Dorksy, and submitted by the Region 8 Cooperative Board for Vocational Education, which comprises member Midcoast towns that send high school students to the Rockland school for career and technical education.

Architects for the project are with Lavallee Brensinger Architects, a firm that has offices in Boston, Manchester, N.H., and Portland.

The agenda also includes the review an application and site plan submitted by Rock Coast Lake House, LLC for short-term rental of a single-family dwelling whole-house rental at 155 Lake View Drive (Tax Map 87-A-15).

The $21.5 million school project, if approved, is anticipated to be under construction in August and be ready for occupation in September 2019.

Region 8 is part of a quasi-municipal corporate structure established by the Maine Legislature in 1973 to provide consistent public career and technical education to high school students.

In the Midcoast, six area high schools send students to, or participate with, the Rockland Region 8 campus for CTE.Those students come from Islesboro; Oceanside, in Rockland; North Haven; Vinalhaven; Medomak, in Waldoboro; and Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport.
