Ready, Rockport? Time to clean your roadsides

Thu, 04/27/2017 - 11:15am

Keep Rockport Beautiful is a community organization within the Rockport Conservation Commission that is dedicated to keeping Rockport clean. Twice a year, organizers Maggie Timmerman and Marci Casas schedule a roadside clean-up to pick up litter and other debris. Last year, volunteers gathered 3,200 pounds of trash along Rockport’s roadsides.

In addition to roadside clean-up, organizers partner with Maine Healthy Beaches once a year and spend an afternoon cleaning Rockport parks and beaches.

Tomorrow, April 28, the third Annual Spring cleanup will take place from noon to 5 p.m. and again on Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Town leaders have been encouraged to be out on the roads picking up, as well. And, last week, inmates from the Bolduc Correctional Facility in Warren, also began to pick up trash and bottles along Route 17 in Rockport.

Join the Rockport Conservation Commission and members of Keep Rockport Beautiful Friday and Saturday. Call 230-4563 for more information.

There will be a group of volunteers gathering at the Study Hall on Route 90 on Saturday, April 29, at 9 .m.
