NORTHPORT — Winterfest and U.S. National Toboggan Championships revelers descended on the Point Lookout Resort and Conference Center in Northport on Feb. 10, to celebrate the third annual Fire & Ice Event. Hosted in the past in the greenhouses atop the mountain, this year the celebration was moved to the pavilion.

The evening included fireworks and complimentary chili and chowder. There was a cash bar and wood fired pizzas available, and a host of games to keep the kids busy – and some adults too.

Drew Strout, general manager of Point Lookout Resort, said they look forward to the event all year and see it as a way to give back to the community.

"We are very happy," he said. "This is a grassroots effort and a way to give back to the local community."

Strout gave the reasons the event was moved from the greenhouses to the pavilion.

"The number one reason was that it essentially had to do with safety," he said. "It's a better venue down here, there's more lighting and we have more opportunity to expand ideas and thoughts."

Strout said they grow nearly six tons of food on the farm that includes the greenhouses.

"The farm is limiting," he said. "We didn't want to clear out and plow out our farming areas. It's all a collaborative effort between the leadership teams here at Point Lookout. Now that we are down here, there are so many possibilities. There's already talk about putting a skating ring outside here for next year."

Strout said Point Lookout has had an incredible year.

"It was a record breaking, phenomenal year for us," he said. "We are always pushing the boundaries. As you know this was once an MBNA property. We have really expanded and we are open to many more outside groups and businesses. The Nationals have us sold out for the next couple of days, it's a fun venue and we are only growing."

Point Lookout has brunches planned for Mother's Day and Easter.

"The big things are our exclusive farm-to-table events we host at the farm," he said. "We have three this year and already tickets have gone on sale and people are buying them. We only allow 42 people per event so already they are starting to sell. Come see our MOFGA certified organic farm, it's incredible."
