SEARSPORT — The Parsonage Gallery announces its first new exhibitions of 2024: Natural Symbols by Stew Henderson and Time Amongst Trees by Peter Walls. The exhibitions open Saturday, March 16, with a public reception from 2 - 4 p.m. The exhibits run through April 28.

In the downstairs gallery, the artist Stew Henderson, of Northport, exhibits a series of mixed media works on wood.

“While they begin with visual parallels, the disparate subjects in these works create curious juxtapositions between human and non-human life forms and behaviors,” said the Gallery, in a news release. “Together, these contrasts invite viewers to question what we consider natural and why.”

In the upstairs gallery, the artist Peter Walls, of Stockton Springs, presents two recent series of circular and oval paintings, including some suspended from the vaulted ceilings.

“We live in a circle, not in a line,” said the artist. “I want to evoke both the winding paths we take through the forest and through life itself.”

The Parsonage Gallery exhibits dynamic work by a diverse slate of contemporary artists, with a special emphasis on issues of ecology and spirituality. It is co-founded and directed by Dr. Aaron Rosen and Dr. Carolyn Rosen and is a program of the not-for-profit Common Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3).  It is open 11am-6pm daily.
