TENANTS HARBOR — The Jackson Memorial Library in Tenants Harbor will feature the works of Owls Head artist Lydia Kaeyer from July 19 through Aug. 17. The library will display a variety of watercolors representing realistic coastal scenes of Maine.

Formerly a teacher in Westchester County, N.Y., Kaeyer studied art and art history at Wheaton College, Round Top Center for the Arts, SUNY Purchase and Manatee Art Center in Florida. As a former student of renowned watercolorist David Dewey, Kaeyer gathers her inspiration from the working waterfronts, local architecture and coastal landscapes that surround our communities.

"I love the docks, working boatyards, local architecture, and coastal scenes using color and light to bring out the beauty of the surroundings," Kaeyer said.

Kaeyer's works have earned her much recognition locally, having won first prize in the professional category at the Maine Lobster Festival in 2007. She also received first prize in water media at the Beaufort Art Association Show, held in South Carolina in 2009 and 2010.

The public is invited to a reception for Kaeyer on Thursday, July 21, from 5 to 7 p.m., to view the artwork and speak with her, while enjoying light refreshments.
