ROCKLAND – Sometimes when sub varsity teams play it’s hard to tell just how good they are because you don’t always know who from the Varsity team is playing down to get some minutes or even who is playing up to get some experience. With the Oceanside JV team, there is no guessing, they are good!

Good enough that they defeated the Camden Hills 53-29 and did so with four freshmen swinging up and three junior varsity players that swing up to varsity, but did not play in last nights varsity game. With the wins last evening for the Mariner sub-varsity teams one can only imagine how good this team is going to be in the future.

Oceanside led after each quarter, 19-5, 32-16 and 49-20 before cruising to the win in the final stanza.

Leading the way for Oceanside were, once again Gabby Simmons and Elise Laslavic with 11 points each. For Simmons, she scored 30 points in two games and had many steals that led to easy baskets to help lead both the freshmen and JV teams to victories. Other scorers for the Mariners were, Amelia Campbell with eight points; Alexis Mazurek six; Sierra Beal five; Haley Montgomery four; and Jenna Conant, Olivia Staples, Sarah Spear and Charlotte Leparulo two each.

The Mariners were 14-of-28 (50 percent) from the foul line and they had one 3-pointer from Simmons.

For Camden Hills, Malea Russell had a team high 10 points; Kira Barley six; Gillian Lafleche and Emily Morse four each; Audrey Clement three; and Kendra Bergelin and Mya Wiley one each.

The Windjammers were 5-of-10 (50 percent) from the charity stripe.
