Oceanside golf starts season 1-1

ROCKLAND – The young Oceanside golf team started the season with a win over Belfast Friday, Aug. 28, but fell Monday, Aug. 31 to visiting Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Friday the Mariners handed host Belfast a 204-215 loss. Monday they hosted the Huskies at the Rockland Golf Club where they lost 180-213.

While sitting at the second hole today with MCI Coach, Paul Greco.  I asked about his team shooting an outstanding opening match with a team score of 155 and  he said, “Yes they did, but you always play better at home.”

Well, he was right about his team, they shot 25 strokes higher on the road than at home. Oceanside, on the other hand, was just the opposite with a score nine strokes higher at home than on the road. 

Individual results of the match with MCI with the Huskies listed first are as follows. Eric Dugas 38, Nick Mazurek 40; Carter Pearl 40, Ryan Lawrence 46; Nate Tilton 53, Michael Doherty 67; Seth Mason 59, Abe LeMole 62; Kurt Larochelle 49, Ted Hallett 68; and Avery Gosselin 60, Aiden Andrews 65.

Medalist for the match went to MCI’s Dugas with a 38.

MCI goes to 2-0 while Oceanside falls to 1-1.

At Northport Friday, Aug. 28, the Belfast Lions played host to Oceanside in a season-opening matchup falling 6-3.

Oceanside walked away with a stroke total of 204-215 in the win. 

Individual results with the Oceanside players listed first were; Nick Mazurek 39, Alex Fritz 42; Ryan Lawrence 43, Doyle Bailey 54; Michael Doherty 60, Alexis Sweet 61; Aiden Andrews 75, Parker LaFrance 61; Abe LeMole 66, Macy Gale 65; and Teddy Hallett 72, Katy King 58. 

Oceanside's Mazurek was the medalist for the match with a low score of 39.
