Oceanside baseball drops preliminary round heartbreaker to Trojans

BAR HARBOR — The 11th-seed Oceanside (9-8) baseball squad hit the road Monday, June 5 to Bar Harbor where they challenged sixth-seed Mount Desert Island (11-6) for the right to advance to the regional quarterfinals.

In an extremely close affair the host Trojans were able to squeak out a 1-0 victory over the Mariners, thus eliminating Oceanside from the playoffs. The lone run was plated in the second inning of the contest. 

With the win, Mount Desert Island advances to the regional quarterfinals where they will travel to third-seed Erskine Academy.

Members of the Oceanside baseball team include Jonah Carlson (freshman; pitcher), Maguire LeBlanc (sophomore; catcher), Uriah Thongsophaphone (sophomore; second base and pitcher), Jack Wadsworth (junior; center field and right field), Tim Mazzeo (junior; right field), Michael Dougherty (junior; pitcher and shortstop), Connor Harvey (junior; left field), Hunter Davis (junior; second base and catcher), Titus Kaewthong (junior; catcher and center field), Jack Freeman (junior; pitcher and first base), Ben Ripley (sophomore; pitcher and second base), Logan Sheridan (junior; pitcher and first base), Michael Norton Jr. (junior; center field and pitcher), Matthew Waldron (junior; pitcher and third base), Coby Dorr (senior; third base), Sam Townsend (senior; catcher), Cole Stevens (sophomore; pitcher and left field) and Zach Cody (sophomore; second base). The team is captained by head coach Don Shields, who is assisted by Bill Curtis, Shawn Hiller, Steve Hiller and Michael Travers.

On the mound for Oceanside were Logan Sheridan (3.2 innings, one run, three hits, one strikeout, one hit-by-pitch) and Jack Freeman (2.1 innings, two strikeouts, one hit-by-pitch). 

On the mound for Mount Desert Island were Seth Clark (seven innings, four hits, six strikeouts, two walks). 

At the plate for the Trojans were Drew Shea (double, run) and Mac Shea (single, RBI).
