BANGOR — The game was intense from the opening tip off until the final shot from Winslow’s Justin Martin was blocked by Cameron Allaire with less than two seconds left on the clock and with that block the Panthers became the 2015 Eastern Class B regional champions.

This was a team effort from Medomak from the first quarter to the cutting down of the nets with no one player overshadowing the rest of the team. They all played with heart, desire, conviction and a common goal on their minds, to beat Winslow and head to the state championship game.

Winslow had their opportunities and almost put the game away early in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers would have nothing to do with that and fought their way back taking the lead agin with just 22 seconds left in regulation.

The Black Raiders opened up the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run in 50 seconds, but Medomak came back strong and with 1:34 left in the game they called a time out with the score 46-45 Winslow.

Cameron Allaire hit a couple of baskets giving the Panther a 49-48 lead with 22.5 seconds on the clock. Allaire was then fouled and made one shot with 10.7 seconds left for the 50-48 lead.

Micah Williamson grabbed the rebound on Allaire’s miss and was almost immediately fouled missing his first and making the second for the 51-48 lead with 6.4 ticks left on the clock.

After a Winslow time out, they inbounded the ball to Martin who brought the ball up made a nice move past Allaire at the top of the arc and went up with what looked like a wide open three only to have Allaire come from the side and block the shot knocking it into the hands of a Winslow player as the buzzer sounded giving the Panthers the 51-48 win.

With the win, Medomak Valley will play Cape Elizabeth who won the Western Class B Regional Championship Saturday afternoon as well. The two teams will matchup Friday, Feb. 27 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland with a 9 p.m. tip off time for the Class B Gold Ball.

Medomak and Winslow played to a 9-9 first quarter tie. Nicholas DePatsy scored all nine points in the first quarter for the Panthers. After an increase in the tempo for the second quarter, behind the 10 point shooting of Williamson, the Panthers took a 25-22 lead into the locker room at the half. Winslow fought back and overcame the deficit taking a 36-35 point lead into the final stanza. The fourth quarter was where the Winslow team met Cameron Allaire who scored five points in the quarter, had numerous rebounds and made the most important block of his career.

Scoring for Medomak were Williamson with 18 points; DePatsy 16; Allaire 10; Zach Starr five; and Colton Spear two.

Medomak Valley was 17-of-25 (68 percent) from the foul line and they had four 3-pointers, two each from DePatsy and Williamson.

For Winslow, Martin had a game high 28 points; Josh Kervin seven; Justin Burgher five; and Colby Robertson and Dylan Hutchinson four each.

The Black Raiders were 8-of-13 (62 percent) from the foul line and they had four 3-pointers. Martin (two), Kervin (one), and Burgher (one) were the lucky 3-point shooters for Winslow.
