HOPE –  A medical episode may have contributed to the death of an elderly woman swimming in Alford Lake on August 29, according to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

While vacationing at her summer home on Hideaway Drive in Hope, Helen Segall, 87 and from Wayne, Pennsylvania, was swimming with her husband approximately 25 yards from shore late Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 5 p.m., a neighbor called Knox Regional Communication Center to report a woman who possibly had drowned in Alford Lake.

Stanley Segall, 89, told responders that his wife started raising her hands for assistance, appeared disorientated in the water, and stopped moving all of a sudden.

“Mr. Segall immediately went to her aid and pulled her back to shore and started performing CPR,” said Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll, in the release.

Knox County Deputies responded to the scene along with responding paramedics from North East Ambulance Service who pronounced Mrs. Segall deceased at the scene.
