OWLS HEAD – Marion E. McMahan, 79, died Nov. 3, 2016, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, after an extended illness.

Born in North Nobleboro on March 3, 1937, she was the daughter of Marrian and Murial Tessa Light Bryant. She was educated in local schools and was valedictorian of the 1955 graduating class of Nobleboro High School.

Telling her stories, Marion put many smiles on people's faces. She was always dressed in her best and complimented by everyone when she was out and about. Everyone loved her cooking and she could cook just about anything. Her door was always open to all the neighborhood kids who would come for meals and snacks. Above all, Marion enjoyed her grandchildren. Marion's favorite pastime was cutting news clippings out of the local newspapers about the area kids she knew, family members and grandchildren, whether it was about sports, birth announcements or school achievements, all of which she kept as keepsakes.

For many years, she worked cleaning houses. It is a well-known fact that you could eat off the floor of any house that she cleaned, including her own.

In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by her son, Dale K. McMahan; a great-grandson, Ashton O'Hara; a grandson, Casey Tolman; her sister, Ethelyn Ralph Barbour; and a son-in-law, Herbert Damon.

She is survived by her children, Donald E. “Jib” McMahan Jr. of Owls Head and his fiancée, Susan Lincoln, of New Hampshire, David L. McMahan of South Thomaston, Deborah M. Damon, and Vance McMahan and his wife, Angel, all of Owls Head; her daughter-in-law, Lynn McMahan of South Thomaston; two sisters, Betsy Cunningham and her husband, Carl, of Waldoboro, and Beverly Boivin of Warren; her grandchildren, Michael O'Hara Jr. of Owls Head, William McMahan of Rockland, Ross McMahan and his fiancée, Jess Martin, of Warren, Dale Damon and his fiancée, Kelsey Gringeri, of Rockland, Luke McMahan of Portland, Christopher McMahan of Owls Head, and Lexi McMahan of South Thomaston; her great-grandchildren, Mikey and Makayla O'Hara-Damon, Delaney and Sunny Chase, Searra and Baylee Tolman, Sophia Lawson McMahan, and Jerimiah and Piper McMahan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. at Ash Point Cemetery in Owls Head. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate. An informal gathering of friends and family will be held that evening, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home's 104 Limerock reception center in Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the food pantry in Rockland.
