CAMDEN — The Camden–Rockport seventh grade boys hosted the Oceanside White team Monday, Nov. 17 in its season opener, falling to the Mariners 51-47 after leading the game up to the final 24 seconds.

“[It was a] great game [and] down to the wire,” said Oceanside-White coach Dave Banda. “Down one with 24 seconds left, we nail a three to go up two. After a couple consecutive turnovers, we get the ball at half court with nine seconds left. They press and we run a set inbounds play and get a layup at the buzzer to win by four.”

Camden–Rockport took a 16-9 first quarter lead and upped it to a 31-21 half time lead. Oceanside White closed the score to 36-34 Camden–Rockport at the end of the third before taking the win late in the fourth.

Drew Minery led the Mariners with 15 points on five 3-pointers including three in the fourth quarter, the last one giving the Mariners the lead. Cameron Kingsbury had 10 points, Carson Murphy eight, Nick Jones six, Hunter Hoppe four, and Jake Paulson, Jonah Carlson, Ben Poland and Nick Banda two each.

The Mariners were 0-7 from the foul line.

Camden–Rockport was led by Sam Hanson with a game high 16 points, followed by Jacob Knowlton who had 13, Sam Conlan nine, Nick Tausek four, David Poutasse three and Joshua Rafter two.

The Schooners were 10-of-21 from the foul line.
