THOMASTON — Marie Edith (Overlock) Nye, 92, passed away July 3, 2016, with her loving family by her side, after a long illness, at the Knox Center in Rockland.

Marie was born in Rockland on Sept. 5, 1923, to parents Walter Overlock and Hazel Eugley Overlock. Marie attended and graduated from Rockland area schools. After meeting George Nye, she and he were married Sept. 28, 1941. They were married for a wonderful 66 years before George's passing.

Marie loved being a homemaker and she held a few different jobs. During the war they worked together at Bath Iron Works, where she was an electricians helper. After that job, Marie went to work for Forty Fathoms seafood in Rockland, where she worked for 28 years. In 1972 after Forty Fathoms closed, she and George went to live in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she worked in maintaining condominiums for 27 years before moving back to Maine. She and George became residents of the Knox Hotel Apartments in Thomaston in 1999.

Marie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George; and her daughter, Mildred Nye French.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, including her son, George W. Nye Sr. and his wife, Jessica, of St. George, and her daughter, Sheila Young and her partner, James McDonald, of Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla.; a sister, Edyth Brown Willis of Rockland; and her brother, Roger Williams and his wife, Mary, of Poland Springs. Marie is also survived by her half-brother, Lou Johnson and his wife, Kaye, of Augusta; along with her special cousins, Doug and Elaine Knowlton of Waldoboro. Marie also leaves her grandsons, George W. Nye Jr. of Shelby, N.C., John W. Taylor and his wife, Cindy, of Florida, Brian N. Taylor and his wife, Stephanie, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Walter French and Michael French of Rhode Island; and her granddaughters, Geneva Hall, Victoria French, and Angie Furr and her partner, Pat Haskell, of Thomaston; along with several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service for Marie will be held in the Fall of 2016 ( and will be published), when Marie will be laid to rest beside her husband, George, and her daughter, Milly, at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.

Hall's of Thomaston has care of the arrangements.
