WARREN — Knox County Sheriff's deputies are en route to the jail in Rockland this afternoon with a Maine State Prison guard, who was arrested at the prison.

An arrest warrant for David J. Cutler, who lives in Appleton, was filed in Knox County Superior Court. Cutler was most recently a captain at the prison.

Cutler is accused of assaulting a 36-year-old inmate on or around Dec. 24, 2012, in Warren. The warrant was filed by the Department of Corrections and jail has been requested for Cutler.

According to records, the victim is serving 15 years and one day for two counts of aggravated drug trafficking out of Cumberland County. He was sentenced Aug. 21, 2007.

At 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said Cutler had not yet arrived at the jail, as the arrest had just occurred.

"Our agency only made the arrest," said Carroll, when asked if the Sheriff's Office had anything to do with the case.

According to a court clerk, a court date has not yet been filed.
