Maine State Police Troop D beat
AUGUSTA — Maine State Police Troop D reported the following activity, Jan. 12-27. Below are some of the highlights, as reported by the agency. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.
Jan. 12
Trooper Christopher Rogers and Recruit Seth Allen arrested Richard Baker, 31, on a warrant. Baker was transported to Kennebec County Correctional Facility.
Jan. 13
Trooper Bethany Robinson and Recruit Desiree Wuthenow arrested Jason Simmons, 46, of Palermo. Simmons was wanted for failure to pay fines and failure to appear in court.
Trooper Mark Ferreira investigated an assault that had occurred in Farmingdale. Kenneth Martin, 59, of Farmingdale was issued a summons for assault and released from the scene.
Trooper Evan Teel, assisted by Trooper Elisha Fowlie and Recruit Thomas Bureau, arrested Calvin Lewis, 55, of Palermo, for operating under the influence on North Palermo Road in Palermo.
Jan. 14
Trooper Fowlie and Recruit Bureau assisted Belfast police with a welfare check in Belfast.
Trooper James Macdonald charged Bill Smith, 32, with operating after suspension.
Trooper Stephen Morrell stopped a vehicle on Weymouth Road in Morrill for a seat belt violation. Tammy Littlefield, 37, was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle greater than 150 days. A passenger, Brian Littlefield, 39, was summoned for possession of a useable amount of marijuana.
Trooper Morrell stopped a vehicle for a loud exhaust noise on Route 131 in Morrill. James Grendell was summoned for displaying a fictitious inspection sticker.
Jan. 15
Trooper Robinson and Recruit Wuthenow responded to a report of a domestic dispute by a third party in Lincolnville. Upon investigation both parties were found to be arguing over a civil issue regarding child custody.
Jan. 16
Troopers Don Webber, Corey Smith and Sgt. Jeffrey Mills responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on North Palermo Road in Palermo. Trooper Patrick Munzing reconstructed the accident and Sgt. Darren Foster mapped.
Jan. 17
Trooper Niles Krech stopped a vehicle northbound on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale because the vehicle appeared to not have an inspection sticker. The investigation revealed that there was an active inspection sticker but it was discovered that the operator, Nicholas Rudolph, 18, didn't have a license. Rudolph was summonsed for operating without a license.
Trooper Kyle Pelletier stopped Kory Child on Route 9 in Chelsea for operating a motor vehicle with a headlight defect. It was learned that Child's license was suspended for failing to maintain required liability insurance. He was summonsed for the offense and released.
Trooper Rogers and Recruit Allen observed a vehicle traveling on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale that had a faulty plate light. Upon investigation, Rhea Mcquillan, 27, was charged with attaching false plates.
Jan. 18
Trooper Rogers and Recruit Allen observed a vehicle speeding on I-295 in Richmond. Upon investigation, Vicky Varnum, 45, was found to have a suspended license in Massachusetts. She was charged with operating without a license and released from the scene.
Trooper Smith initiated a burglary investigation at a residence on Borough Road in Searsmont. Evidence was found at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Trooper Pelletier investigated a burglary complaint on Dennis Hill Road in Litchfield. The homeowner reported that approximately $400 in spare change was stolen from the residence. The investigation continues.
Jan. 19
Trooper Pelletier responded to a domestic incident on Easy Street in Farmingdale. It was determined no assaults had occurred and the parties agreed to separate for the evening.
Trooper Ferreira interviewed and charged Gene L. Northup, 47, of Augusta, with aggravated criminal mischief.
Trooper Robinson and Recruit Wuthenow stopped Amy Bruin, 35, of Belmont, for a vehicle defect. Bruin's license was expired and she was charged with having an expired driver's license for more than 90 days.
Jan. 20
Trooper Robert Cejka stopped Amanda A. Brewer, 21, for not wearing her seat belt as she went through the West Gardiner Toll. The investigation determined Brewer was in possession of a usable amount of marijuana. She was summonsed for the seat belt violation and for marijuana possession.
Trooper Adam McNaughton responded to Windsor Road in Chelsea for a domestic situation.
Trooper Morrell responded to a single-vehicle crash in Albion. The driver, Chad McDougal, 21, was summoned for operating after suspension.
Trooper Teel summonsed Donald Gilley, 39, of Unity, for operating an unregistered motor vehicle. The incident occurred on Route 139 in Unity.
Trooper Teel received a report of a residence in Knox that had been burglarized. This incident is still being investigated.
Trooper Rogers and Recruit Allen followed a vehicle driving the wrong way down South Maple Street in Randolph. They stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Nathon Taylor, 33, and the passenger, Jonathan Hussey, 22. Hussey was arrested on two warrants and Taylor was cited for driving the wrong way on a one way street.
Jan. 21
Trooper Macdonald stopped a vehicle on Route 137 in Albion for speeding and poor operation. Joshua Raven, 21, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.
Trooper Fowlie and Recruit Bureau stopped a vehicle on Route 3 in China for a seat belt violation. Bureau detected the odor of burnt marijuana omitting from the vehicle. Jason Breton, 38, was summonsed for drug paraphernalia, possession of usable amount of marijuana and a seat belt violation.
Trooper Smith initiated a burglary investigation on Page Road in Jackson. The homeowner found the front door was forced open and property was missing. The investigation is ongoing.
Jan. 22
Trooper Smith responded to Bailey Road in Unity for a theft complaint. A Toshiba laptop computer was delivered to the residence during the first week of January. The package was left on the porch of the residence and it was stolen prior to the resident collecting it.
Trooper Greg Stevens and Recruit Erin Ball responded to an assault complaint. While interviewing Donald Stuart, 54, of Pittston, it was apparent that he had been drinking, which was in violation of his bail conditions. Donald was arrested for the violation and the assault complaint is still under investigation.
Jan. 23
Trooper Webber responded to a residence in China for an unattended death. Webber assisted the family with arrangements.
Jan. 24
Trooper Webber responded to a single-vehicle crash on Lakeview Drive in China. Heather Kelley, 34, of Albion, was charged with operating under the influence and released.
Trooper Krech stopped Adam Defio, 19, on Route 1 in West Bath for speeding. Following an investigation, Defio was summonsed for possession of a schedule X drug, possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jan. 25
Trooper Pelletier stopped Shawna Karam, 21, on Lakeview Drive in China for speeding. At the time of the traffic stop she held an expired class C operator's permit. Karam was summonsed for operating without a license.
Trooper Teel arrested Chase Rock, 63, of Unity, for operating under the influence.
Trooper Fowlie investigated a compliant of a counterfeit $50 bill that was used at Irving on Lakeview Drive in China. Waterville police were contacted, as this was in relation to an aggravated forgery case they were currently working on. The investigation continues.
Trooper Rogers stopped a vehicle on Water Street in Randolph for the operator and passenger not wearing their seat belts. Both subjects were issued tickets for the seatbelt violations and Travis Dobson, 27, was arrested on a warrant.
Troopers Rogers and Ferreira, along with the Major Crimes Unit, responded to the Kennebec Rail Trail in Hallowell to assist the Hallowell Police Department with a suspicious death, which was deemed to be a suicide. Rogers made notification to the family in Chelsea.
Trooper McNaughton arrested Eron Hatheway, 32, in China on an active warrant out of Lincoln County.
Trooper Ferreira stopped Ramsey Tercyak, 19, of Randolph for an expired inspection on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale. Further investigation into the stop revealed that there was marijuana in the vehicle. Ramsey was summonsed for possession of a usable amount of marijuana.
Jan. 26
Trooper McNaughton and Recruit Bureau responded to Webb Road in Pittston for an unattended death.
Jan. 27
Trooper Jonathan Leach stopped Mikayla Ethier, 21, on I-295 in West Gardiner. Ethier was traveling 97 mph and she was summonsed for criminal speeding.
Trooper Smith was notified of a late report of a car versus deer crash in Thorndike that occurred late on Jan. 26. There were no injuries. The operator was charged with failure to report a motor vehicle accident by quickest means.
Trooper Smith responded to Stevens Road in Unity for a reported theft of home heating fuel. The investigation continues.
