BELFAST — A Lincolnville man was convicted March 1 of unlawful sexual contact involving a child under 14.
Glenn L. Reed was sentenced to eight years in prison with all but one year suspended, in addition to three years of probation. The sentence was handed down in Waldo County Superior Court the day of his conviction.
Glenn L. Reed, 68, was arrested by the Waldo County Sheriff's Office Dec. 29, and charged with two counts of unlawful sexual contact involving a child under age 14. Court documents list the date of the first offense as June 1, 2011, when the child was under age 12, and June 1, 2012. He was convicted of the 2012 offense, while the charge for the 2011 assault was dismissed.
Reed, who is a lifelong registrant on the Maine Sex Offender Registry, was previously convicted of rape in 1983, according to the indictment handed down by a grand jury.
According to court documents, the abuse came to light when the child involved wrote about the abuse in a school assignment.
