ROCKLAND — Lillian Evelyn (Whitney) Lewis, 94, a resident of the Methodist Conference Home in Rockland, died Feb. 25, 2013, at Pen Bay Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Rockport May 22, 1918, she was the daughter of Fred and Elsie (Manning) Whitney. She was a 1935 graduate of Rockport High School and attended nursing school at Knox County General Hospital and Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and obtained her degree as a registered nurse in 1943. Later that year, she married Theodore Dow Lewis in Bath. Lillian worked as a nurse in Rockland and later in Westfield, Mass. In 1987, she moved to South Berwick and then to Rockland in 2003.

Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Grace Bible Fellowship in Rockland.

Surviving is her son, Theodore D. Lewis Jr. of South Deerfield, Mass.; two step-daughters, Cheri Lewis of Lisbon and Marie Orcutt of Saratoga, N.Y.; two brothers, James Whitney and his wife, Roberta, of Warren and South Carolina, and William Whitney of Portland; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchilden. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Steele; three brothers, Ernest Whitney, Ralph Whitney and Richard Whitney; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Whitney.

A funeral service was held March 4 at Grace Bible Fellowship in Rockland. Spring burial will be in Rockville Cemetery in Rockport.
