Letter to the editor: We need Pinny Beebe-Center in Augusta

Trust. That is what I have for Pinny Beebe-Center. When I moved to Rockland 14 years ago I had only heard her name and that others said she cared deeply for families, education, the environment and sufficient safety nets for anyone in a crisis. Then I met her. I saw that she really meant it that she cared about giving economic and good, healthy opportunities for all citizens. And she understands the government’s structure well enough to oversee budgets that prevent property taxes from rising. She wants the young, middle class and seniors to be able to enjoy living in mid-coast Maine. I am so impressed with her dedication to public service in a climate that so dearly needs kindness, good listening skills and imagination.

With a solid set of values holding strong, Pinny visualizes ways to deliver programs and budgets that she knows people need. She knows the stories of people who struggle but want to be self-sufficient and thrive. I have seen her put resources and opportunities together that others did not see possible.  Pinny collaborates. She knows what makes sense financially and what is humane to do for our community members.

We need her in Augusta to help untangle complexities and point to efficiencies and the proper use of state funds for the values that make life strong and meaningful. Once you meet Pinny, I think you, too, will see she means it when she says she believes in a good and healthy life for each of us and that she knows how to work for that.
