Letter to the editor: Kathleen Meil, a proud progressive Democrat

I am already looking forward to watching Kathleen Meil serve in the state legislature as the representative from Camden, Rockport, and Islesboro. Kathleen is prepared and ready for the responsibility that comes with that office. She successfully served as the chair of the Library Committee in Rockport at a time of great change. Amid controversy she was able to bring an open mind to all comments and suggestions, treating everyone with respect and fairness, without letting her own opinions get in the way of listening. It’s a gift of temperament and intelligence welcome in politics especially here and now.

Kathleen is a proud progressive Democrat, the granddaughter of an Kansas state representative and newspaper editor whose fairness, caring, and inquisitiveness was her inheritance. She has clear positions on the needs of Maine families, the environment, and strengthening our schools - and why not? She’s the mother of two children in public schools, is a working professional in the energy/environment field. She is a graduate of Emerge Maine, a political training network, and she will have the aid and backing of a strong party affiliation in Augusta, able to hit the ground running.

Kathleen and her husband, Ari, are friends. I have worked with both on the Rockport Public Library with pleasure and accomplishment. I don’t even mind going to meetings if either one of them will be there.

Jan Rosenbaum lives in Rockport.
