Letter to the editor: Annual Rockport Library book sale raises more than $15,000

Thanks to a community of generous people who value and support the services Rockport Public Library provides, more than $15,000 was raised at the recent Friends of Rockport Public Library annual book sale.

Although the Friends organize the event, such success happens only because of hard work and support from the community at large. This is an all time record, and we thank you all so much for your help!

People help the sale in many ways, including donating books and turning out in large numbers to buy them. A group of Friends' members sorts the books twice a week, year-round, which organizes them and makes finding just the right book easy for customers. Others volunteer to work at the sale itself. We could not do this without them, and they too have our thanks.

Members of the Rockport Public Works Department do the heavy lifting of delivering books from storage units, picking up and delivering tables, and returning items after the sale. What would we do without this help?

The Friends also thank the Midcoast Recreation Center for allowing us to hold the sale in their facility, a venue that has room for the thousands of books we sell to be displayed. We are also grateful for the generosity of Rockport Steel in allowing us to use one of their buildings to sort all those books. Without a place to sort books, there could be no sale.

Profits from the sale go directly to the library to support the operation and ongoing programs it provides for every resident in town.

Thank you all so much!
